The Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR)

The Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR) is a partnership approach to helping countries improve the ability to monitor the cancer burden in their populations. This initiative is being led by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

A connected system of six IARC Regional Hubs, including the Caribbean Hub, have been established to directly support in-country capacity building in cancer registration. Each Hub is designed to deliver structured programmes in: technical training of registry personnel; consultancies through site visits and mentorship arrangements, including advise to governments; analysis to produce scientific and policy reports; and the formation of regional networks to assist with the exchange of information among peers.
